Organic Hemp Hearts (Hulled Hemp Seeds Meaning Fibrous Shell Removed)

Macros

  • Serving size: 30g (3 tbsp)
  • 180 Calories
  • 15g Fat
  • 1g Carb (1g fiber, 0g sugar)
  • 10g Protein

Ingredients

Organic hulled hemp seeds.

Why You Should Grab Some:

Hemp seeds are one of the healthiest things you can put into your body.

Hemp protein is one of the few plant-based proteins that’s actually complete, meaning it contains adequate amounts of all nine of the essential amino acids. It’s also one of the easiest proteins for your body to digest and the bioavailability is extremely high.

They’re also extremely rich in other nutrients such as phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids.

This price at Costco is INCREDIBLE. At $0.60 per ounce, that’s about HALF of what Whole Foods charges for the exact same product (they charge $1.08 per ounce).

We don’t know why pumpkin seeds aren’t talked about more. They are truly one of the most potent superfoods in existence. They are loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and protein. Why You Should Grab Some:

Macadamia are delicious, plus they are loaded vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and healthy fats. The only real downside to macadamia nuts is their high price tag, but Costco has them for the amazing price of $0.83 per ounce. As a point of reference, they can be upwards of $1.60 at Whole Foods, about DOUBLE the price.

Pasture raised eggs. Keep in mind, even though these are pasture raised, the chickens almost certainly had a supplemental feed of grain, including GMO-soy. Cauliflower Rice

Price

      $2.49 for a 16 oz bag ($0.16 / Ounce)

Macros

      • Serving size: 1 cup (100g)
      • 27 Calories
      • 0g Fat
      • 5g Carb (2g fiber, 2g sugar, 0 added sugar) Carb
      • 2g Protein

Ingredients

Cauliflower

Why You Should Grab Some:

While it’s not organic (bit of a bummer), cauliflower is at least on the “Clean 15” list. This means that the non-profit organization Environmental Working Group (EWG) rates them as safe to buy as conventional (not organic), because they score low in harmful pesticides. And at just $2.49 ($0.16 / Ounce), this is a steal. You won’t find a better price on fresh cauliflower rice anywhere.

Pasture Raised Heirloom Whole Chicken

Price

      $2.99 / Pound

Macros

      • Macros vary depending on which part of chicken.

    Ingredients

    Chicken

    Why You Should Grab Some:

This is the absolute best thing to buy at Trader Joe’s. TJ’s is one of the ONLY local supermarkets where you can find true pasture raised heirloom chickens at all locations. Whole Foods has them on the west coast, but is lacking in other markets. TJ’s has them everywhere, coast to coast. And the price – $2.99 a pound! That’s a STEAL for what you’re getting. Heirloom chickens are of a different breed that the traditional factory farmed birds that are mass produced in giant feedlots. These genetic monstrosities have been selectively bred over the years for size, not flavor. Heirloom chickens taste better, and the fact that these are air chilled deepens the chickeny flavor even more. Chickens that are not air chilled are chilled in water, and they absorb some of that water, which dilutes the flavor. Plus, you’re paying for that extra water weight. PLEASE NOTE, however, that just because they are pasture raised does NOT mean that the chickens haven’t been given a supplemental diet of GMO corn/soy. While this is still orders of magnitude better than anything else you’d find at a local grocery store, it’s not quite as good as an online retailer or local farmer selling pasture raised chicken that have not been fed GMO grains. However, almost all chickens, regardless of the source, do need a little supplemental grain of some kind in their diets. They can’t survive and grow to a decent size on solely the grass/bugs they find on the pasture.

100% Grass Fed 85/15 Ground Beef

Price

      $5.99 / Pound

      • 17g Fat
      • 0g Carb
      • 21g Protein

    Ingredients

    Beef

    Why You Should Grab Some:

Great price on 85/15 100% grass fed organic beef at just $5.99 / Pound. Keep in mind, even for 80/20 this would be a good price, and this 85/15 which is generally a bit more expensive.

      • 2g Fat
      • 1g Carb (0 fiber, 0 sugar)
      • 0g Protein

Ingredients vary, but for the “Green Goddess” avocado based flavor: Water, avocado, apple cider vinegar, green onions, lemon juice, chives, parsley, olive oil blend (olive oil, extra virgin olive oil), yellow onion, basil, garlic, sea salt, black pepper.

Read those ingredients again. WOW! Absolutely top notch. Perfect for those days when you want to makeba salad, but you’re too lazy to make a decent dressing. And the price is very reasonable.

      • Serving size: 1 tbsp (15 mL)

      • 5g Carb (5g sugar, 0g added sugar)
      • g Protein

Great replacement for soy sauce at an incredible price./p>

Gluten Free Pastas

Price

      $1.99 for 16 oz bag ($0.13 / Ounce)

Macros

      • Macros vary, but as you can guess, they’re almost pure carbs with very little fat. Although, the ones with lentil flour are high in protein as well.

Ingredients

Vary, but they are usually either brown rice or a mixture of brown rice and yellow lentil flour.

Why You Should Grab Some:

Whole Foods has an overall better selection of gluten free pastas, but Trader Joe’s has them beat on price. By a lot, in fact. A 16 oz bag of TJ’s organic brown rice pasta is NEARLY ONE THIRD the price of what Whole Foods charges for the Jovial brand brown rice pasta! Trader Joe’s comes out to only $0.13 / Ounce, compared to a whopping $0.34 for Jovial brand at Whole Foods.

Organic Coconut Milk

Price

      $1.69 for 13.5 oz can ($0.13 / Ounce)

Macros

      • Serving size: 1/4th cup (65 mL)
      • 110 Calories
      • 11g Fat
      • 1g Carb (1g sugar, 0g added sugar)
      • 1g Protein

Ingredients

Water, Organic coconut

Why You Should Grab Some:

Amazing price on organic coconut milk and one of the only brands you’ll find that does not use any thickeners such as guar gum or xanthan gum. Not that thickeners themselves are bad, but, if they felt the need to add them, that could be because they are using a higher ratio of water to coconut milk. Also look out for their coconut cream, which is hard to find in standard grocery stores.

Frozen Rice

Price

      $2.99 for 30 oz ($0.10 / Ounce)

      • 2g Fat
      • 49g Carb (3g fiber, 0g sugar)
      • 5g protein

Ingredients

Water, brown rice, rice bran oil.

Why You Should Grab Some:

Everyone should have some frozen pre-cooked rice in their freezer. While some places like to charge and arm and a leg for precooked rice, the price at Trader Joe’s is very fair.
